![Daniel De Valle of @TheVxlley made his @LondonFashionWeek debut with ‘The Narcissist’, a collection interpreting his personal obsessions - be it chinoiserie ceramics, sourdough bread or a good cig.
Described as ‘an eclectic merge of fashion, exhibition, performance, object and memory,’ models adorned sculptural pieces that were arguably more art than fashion. Having taken three years to develop, the inspiration of these looks stemmed back to his childhood in Pilas, Spain, imagined from ‘all the things and people that have shaped [him].’
As explicit as he makes his obsessions on the runway, it’s the underlying memories, such as learning embroidery from his grandmother or working in his father’s bakery, that imbues a touch of poignancy.
De Valle identifies with ‘The Narcissist’, both as the source of the collection and as the new designer on the block, yet with all this time the personal meaning of his concept has evolved: “‘The Narcissist’ isn’t really about me anymore. I see it like a garden. Everything that grows inside it is a reflection of me. When people come to see the collection, I just want them to feel like they’re walking through a garden, surrounded by life.”
Congratulations to Daniel on what has proved to be a standout this season and we cannot wait to see his garden blossom in many more to come.
